Impots 2024

Due to a technical failure, Bercy has just granted an extra week to taxpayers in departments 1 to 19 to declare their income. Please note that only certain households are affected. For all others, penalties will apply in the event of late filing.

In principle, taxpayers residing in départements ranging from 1 to 19 had until Thursday May 23 at 11:59 pm to declare the income they received in 2023 (2024 taxes). However, due to a technical malfunction, some people were unable to complete their tax return.

To avoid late penalties being unfairly applied to these individuals, Bercy has just indicated that their tax return deadline has been extended to May 30, 2024.

Not all taxpayers affected

As specified by the tax authorities on their website impots.gouv.fr, the postponement of the tax return from May 23 to May 30 only concerns taxpayers in départements 1 to 19 who have encountered difficulties in declaring their professional income, such as non-commercial profits (BNC) and industrial and commercial profits (BIC). Non-residents are also entitled to the deferral.

Departments from 1 to 19

Ain (01), Aisne (02), Allier (03), Alpes-de-Haute-Provence (04), Hautes-Alpes (05), Alpes-Maritimes (06), Ardèche (07), Ardennes (08), Ariège (09), Aube (10), Aude (11), Aveyron (12), Bouches-du-Rhône (13), Calvados (14), Cantal (15), Charente (16), Charente-Maritime (17), Cher (18) and Corrèze (19).
Individuals with no BIC and/or BNC income who failed to meet the initial May 23 deadline are therefore liable to penalties for late filing.

No change for other taxpayers

For other departments, the deadline for online tax returns for 2024 remains :

  • Thursday May 30, 2024 before midnight for departments from 20 (Corse-du-Sud) to 54 (Meurthe-et-Moselle) ;
  • Thursday June 6, 2024 in departments from 55 (Meuse) to 976 (Mayotte).

For paper returns, the deadline was Tuesday May 21, 2024 at 11:59 pm, as evidenced by the postmark. As a reminder, all taxpayers with Internet access must file online, unless they are unable to do so.

All these dates also apply to Impôt sur la fortune immobilière (IFI) tax returns.
